Tolcairn Builders is a small boutique construction company specialising in renovations and new builds. Established in 2018, Tolcairn Builders has fast become a small trusted company around the south west region.
Chris wanted to start a company that offered alternatives to the average build; one that strives to create architectural builds and renovations that are reflective of client individuality, design innovation and quality carpentry all at a competitive price. To achieve this, Chris knew it would take a team of like-minded tradesman, architects and design specialists who were passionate about the direction he wanted to take Tolcairn Builders in.
Because of this, we have personally sourced and refined an entire network of carpenters, subcontractors and supply specialists who not only believe in, but are passionate about our company and the ideals we base it around.
Our network are committed to quality, design, style, innovation and how all of these things can be tailored to suit and reflect our client’s individual needs within each of the sub trades.

From a young age, I knew I wanted to become a builder.
My dad is a farmer back in South Australia and taught me a great work ethic. I loved the physical aspect of farming, however I realized quickly that the social interaction wasn’t there. I did work experience for a family friend who was a builder and loved it. He offered me an apprenticeship at the end of it and I took it with both hands. From there I experienced all aspects of building from siteworks (digging footings) to landscaping.
I’ve travelled around Australia and worked in the metropolitan commercial sector, cyclonic areas in the Kimberley, high end residential in Perth. As a result of it all, I decided that I loved the process of building and residential mid-high end homes is what I enjoyed building the most. That’s when I set my mind (& money) into getting the qualifications needed to become a registered builder.
Being able to build/renovate peoples homes in one of the most beautiful parts of the world is a privilege.
With 16 years of carpentry experience and an extensive background in renovations, his problem solving skills are unmatched. Denham also loves working with his hands and takes a lot of ownership and pride in seeing projects throughout their duration from beginning to end. If Denham isn’t working on site, you may catch him down the beach with his wife Shiv and daughter, Tallulah. He loves his fishing, 4WDing and enjoys a drop of emu export.
Mitch is our apprentice carpenter at Tolcairn. He has had a LOT of previous on- site experience helping his dad as a tiler. Growing up, he knew that he wanted to do something hands-on and it just so happens that being a chippy is the perfect fit for Mitch. His tool collection is growing weekly and he is proud of the work he completes on site. Mitch loves catching up with his mates after work, partying, fishing and spending time working on his hilux.
Chris spends 3 days a week on site with the guys, which he loves. For the other 2 days he is looking after his son, Ollie. Undergoing meetings, site visits, emailing and completing all of the other administration tasks that need doing.
We value the home like it’s our own, as do all of our subcontractors.
